Flexible Framing (Open Gate)

Capture what you need and crop what you don't. You can get all the aspect ratios from one shot by using the Open Gate video recording mode which uses full height of the sensor, offering flexibility in framing while keeping high image quality.

MP4(Lite)

If you want to edit it later, the new MP4(Lite) mode 4K video is perfect for transferring to your smartphone. Just use the LUMIX Lab app to crop it to your desired aspect ratio, such as 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1.

It features deep contrasts between black and white.

Frame Marker

The ideal aspect ratio varies by social media. This feature helps you anticipate the right crop as you shoot. Can be used for both still photos and video. Up to 3 frame markers can be displayed simultaneously.*

Extended Zoom Range

Crop Zoom / Hybrid Zoom extends the zoom range of both photos and videos. Hybrid Zoom is a combination of Optical Zoom and Crop Zoom. This function allows you to expand your range of expressions even if you only carry around minimal equipment.

96MP High Resolution Mode

In this mode, consecutive images are automatically shot while shifting the sensor using the Body Image Stabilizer (B.I.S.) mechanism. Then, the high-speed signal processing engine synthesizes the images into a 96-megapixel equivalent (12,000 x 8,000-pixel) file. This allows you to capture magnificent natural scenery and detailed works of art in ultra-high resolution without using a tripod.

Synchro Scan (Photo)

The LUMIX S9 synchronizes the shutter speed with the flicker frequency of the light source, reducing phenomena such as darkening and horizontal lines.

L-Mount

One of the advantages of creating with a mirrorless camera is that you can change lenses at any time and enjoy new expressions. The LUMIX S9 can also be combined with lenses from other companies' L-Mount systems. Find your own unique expression from a wide variety of options.

Support for using the focus ring as a control ring

The focus ring can now be used as a control ring*, enabling you to assign key functions such as aperture and exposure compensation. When set to the Crop Zoom, it allows smooth extension of the telephoto range. The ring’s rotation direction is also selectable*, giving you the freedom to adjust handling to match your shooting style and camera setup.

*Please update the firmware on the camera to version 1.6. Download from here.
The following lenses are compatible as of October 2025: S-R2060, S-E2460, S-R24105, S-X50, S-S18, S-S24, S-S35, S-S50, S-S85 and S-E100. Please make sure your lenses are using the latest firmware.
