Festive Ginger Bread Men
This classic recipe is perfect for the kids at Christmas. These crunchy ginger delights can be decorated with writing icing, which is fun for the whole family–and you get to eat the results!
Ingredients
- 350 g(plain) flour
- 1 tspbaking soda
- 2 tspground ginger
- 1 tspcinnamon
- 150 gbutter
- 175 gsoft brown sugar
- 1egg
- 1 tbspgolden syrup
- to decorate writing icing
Steps
STEP 1
Sift together into a bowl the flour, baking soda, ginger, and cinnamon.
STEP 2
Add the butter and blend together until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
STEP 3
Stir in the sugar.
STEP 4
Lightly beat the eggs and golden syrup together. Add to the mix and combine until it clumps together.
STEP 5
Tip the dough onto a work surface and knead until smooth. Wrap in cling film and chill in the fridge for 15 mins.
STEP 6
Preheat the oven on convection 180°C.
STEP 7
Line two baking trays with grease-proof paper.
STEP 8
Lightly flour a work surface and roll the dough out to ¼” thickness. Using cookie cutters, cut out your ginger bread shapes and place on the baking trays. Leave a gap between the cookies.
STEP 9
Bake for 12-15 mins or until lightly golden. Leave on the baking tray to cool for 10 mins before moving to a wire rack to finish cooling.
STEP 10
When completely cool, decorate with the writing icing.
