BEST FULL FRAME PHOTO/VIDEO CAMERA
LUMIX S1

"The S1 doubles as a 24.2MP still camera with very fast AF speed and tracking performance and a pro-style full-frame video camera. It delivers 4K 60p video with full-pixel readout of signals in 4K 30p/25p and complies with 4:2:2 10-bit 4K 30p/25p internal video recording and 4K 60p HDMI output plus V-Log. All that adds up to video performance and capabilities that have high appeal to content creators. The S1 incorporates a 5-axis Body IS image stabilization that, when used with S-series lenses, delivers 6-stop compensation.. For stills, the S1 offers a High Resolution mode that can be used to create 96MP images, thanks to the new Venus image high-speed signal processing capabilities. The camera also features a 1/8000 second top shutter speed with flash sync as high as 1/320 second."

"The Lumix S1H is by far the most capable video camera we've ever tested. It's no coincidence that it's also the first camera in our realm to have been approved by Netflix for shooting 4K content.

To a great degree, it's a full-frame GH camera, offering a large number of specialist tools from those cameras (waveforms, LUT-based Display Assist mode, HDR preview modes, anamorphic desqueeze, shutter angle reporting and frame markers), as well as their high-bitrate capture modes."

Consumer Stills/Video Camera of the Year
LUMIX S1

"It might seem odd having both the Panasonic Lumix DC-S1 and S1H on the same list, for best stills / video hybrid camera and have the S1 beat its more video-centric stablemate, but this is precisely the point. With the S1H in the pipeline, Panasonic didn't need to make the S1 as good for video as it did, and it certainly didn't need to make it even better with a paid firmware update.

With the paid update, the S1 becomes a formidable camera for video, even to the extent that the costlier S1H may prove unnecessary for many filmmakers. We've done a lot of shooting this year on the S1 and it's an impressive machine from a manufacturer that perhaps more than any other, really knows how to do video right."

Camera of The Year
LUMIX S1R

"This is one of the company’s first 35 mm full-frame mirrorless models, launched along with LUMIX S1. Excellent all in all, in functionality and operability, appealing to users’ sensibility. LUMIX S1R symbolizes Panasonic’s strenuous efforts made through the years since LUMIX G1 was released in 2008 as the world’s first mirrorless model (Camera Grand Prix 2009 Editors Award winner)... Many of the Selection Committee highly appreciated the degree of perfection and ambition displayed on this model."

*Camera Grand Prix is held by Camera Journal Press Club (CJPC, Japan), a group of representatives from magazines or websites specializing in photos and cameras. Camera Grand Prix “Camera of the Year” is granted to a still camera recognized as the best of all released during the period.
