Advice & Information for Buying a TV
The new Panasonic TVs are a delight for the eyes. The high definition enhances the visual experience and allows you to immerse yourself in the images: this is why it is important to consider the optimal viewing distance or the size of the TV best suited to your home. We can help you make the right choice.
What has changed with 4K?
Until a few years ago, when looking at a television from close up the images were very blurred. The screen pixels were no longer visible and the image only appeared consistent to the human eye when keeping a certain distance. The new OLED and Ultra 4K HD LED TVs allow you to remain much closer to the screen. The image remains focused even from up close, preserving a wealth of detail and depth.
If you do not want to move your sofa closer to the screen, you can choose a very high definition TV that is much larger than an older HD device, or even a standard resolution TV. Thanks to 4K upscaling, this quality is guaranteed even if nothing changes regarding TV reception.
From inches to centimetres
Television dimensions are measured using the diagonal of the screen and are usually indicated in inches. Converting inches to centimetres is simple: 1 inch = 2.54 centimetres. A 58-inch screen has a diagonal of 146 centimetres. This data is important in determining the correct viewing distance or the screen size.
The signal quality and television resolution determine the distance from which you should sit from the TV. You can apply the following rule as an idea:
Standard definition (SD): screen diagonal x 3,5 = recommended viewing distance
High definition (HD): screen diagonal x 2,5 = recommended viewing distance
UHD 4K: screen diagonal x 1,5 = recommended viewing distance
Due to the fact that more and more broadcasters, cable and on demand operators broadcast in HD, broadly speaking you can simply apply HD standards. Consider a slightly increased distance for UHD 4K ultra-high resolution content. In other words: the greater the definition, the smaller the distance will be and the larger the TV can be.
The best wall
The TV should be located as close as possible to a TV socket, to avoid a mass of exposed cables.Walls that are at right angles to windows usually have lower levels of reflection.
The best position
The television should be set up on a secure and stable surface. In order for bigger devices to fit without having to change TV units, many Panasonic models have a standard variable stand.
The right height
When sitting on a sofa, the lowest edge of the television should be at eye-level. Many TV units take into account this general rule. As an alternative, you can also mount the television to the wall. This is a modern and elegant solution.
Bigger screen, more fun
Are you undecided about screen size? Remember that even a few extra inches of a screen diagonal can have an important impact. For example, a 49-inch screen corresponds to a surface that is 26% bigger than a 55-inch screen. The enjoyment of the TV is staggeringly enhanced and the front-on visual experience is enhanced with high-definition details.
