National Awards Ceremony for Kid Witness News & Eco Picture Diary Contest

Kuala Lumpur, 10 November 2016 – Panasonic Malaysia organized a National Awards Ceremony for their Panasonic Kids School Programs - Panasonic Kid Witness News and Eco Picture Diary. Both programs have been carried out by Panasonic to equip students with additional skills and to nurture the Eco Education into the minds of young generations.

Kid Witness News (KWN) participations were students aged 10 to 17 who submitted their short film video with themes on Ecology, Communication and Sports. Meanwhile, for Eco Picture Diary (EPD), students aged 10 to 16 submitted their picture diaries with entries on causes and effects of global warming, biodiversity, eco technology and eco lifestyles.

Panasonic Malaysia introduced the KWN program through video education in 2005. Later in 2011, another eco learning program was introduced which is the Eco Picture Diary through Panasonic Kids School. These initiatives were carried out in collaboration with Ministry of Education to ensure that children are not only eco conscious but also eco intelligent, through experiential learning.

“This is part of our devotion to the progress and development of society through our corporate social responsibility initiatives and as an extra-curricular activity for the schools with the focus on skills development, team work, creativity and responsibility to help preserve environment.” said Gorbachan Singh, Associate Director of Human Resources & Administration Panasonic Malaysia. “There is always an urgency to create sustainable solutions that could help address environmental concerns”, added Gorbachan.

The Kid Witness News (KWN) training was conducted in August 2016 at Nilai Springs Resort. This training was organized with the objective of introducing students to the various aspects of video production, to equip them with the knowledge and skills, and to help develop their creativity and confidence.

For this year, Panasonic Kid Witness News has garnered participations from a total of 19 schools and 76 students. 19 videos were submitted by schools nationwide and 12 videos were selected to enter the final.

As for Eco Picture Diary, it has received participations from a total of 23 schools and 400 students have submitted their story in the diary provided by Panasonic. 30 students have been shortlisted to compete in the final.

For the awards ceremony, prizes include Panasonic Hair Styler, LED Torch Light, Table Fan, Charger Kit with battery, specially designed trophy and certificate of participation.

Winner for the KWN contest will represent Malaysia for the Global contest video submission.
