PANASONIC EMBARKS ON FLOOD RELIEF EFFORTS FOR MALAYSIA’S EAST COAST

Putrajaya, 13 February 2015 – Panasonic Group of Companies in Malaysia donated products to schools in the states of Kelantan and Pahang as part of its flood relief efforts. The donation, worth RM655,233 included 120 units of 42” smart televisions, 88 units of LCD projectors, 127 units of washing machines with 10kg capacity each and 940 units of irons. The company’s contribution is in line with the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) aim to provide assistance to 88 schools which were badly affected by the recent floods.

The 88 selected schools comprise of regular schools as well as fully residential schools with hostel facilities.

Managing Director of Panasonic Management Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Toshiro Okamoto, said, “The floods which occurred in December last year is one of the worst floods the country has seen in 30 years. The eastern region of Malaysia was badly affected. Daily lives were disrupted and more than 220,000 people were displaced. Panasonic hopes to actively contribute and support rebuilding efforts, such as by providing a conducive learning environment to students in Kelantan and Pahang. We want to ensure they can carry on with their education after this disaster.”

The donation is part of Panasonic’s societal contribution efforts to provide a better life, a better world for the affected states in the East Coast. The company is also in the process of finalising discussions with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) to contribute RM100,000 which will go to construction of homes for the East Coast flood victims. Previously, Panasonic donated 1,500 flashlights and 4,000 batteries via nonprofit organisations (NPOs) and formed a Flood Task Force Team to offer complementary services and repair works. In total, the Panasonic Group of Companies in Malaysia has donated RM851,182 under its flood relief efforts.
