4 RECIPES TO MAKE IN YOUR BREADMAKER
There are so many types of bread you can make in a breadmaker, but one of their great attributes is the ability to make alternative recipes using them. You can whip up meals such as meat loaf and pasta. Pasta works particularly well and has a beautiful texture when using the kneading blade. Do experiment – don’t stick to just the normal recipes. You will be amazed at what you can achieve!
Robust Beer Bread
This is an incredible bread that is both sweet and slightly sour tasting at the same time. Goes well with hearty meat dishes or platters of continental meats and pickles.
Serves: 8 slices
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: Approx. 2½ hours
Ingredients:
• 300ml of stout or strong dark beer, which has been left to go flat at room temperature
• 14g butter, split into two portions
• 275g whole-wheat flour
• 125g bread flour
• 2tbsp dark treacle or molasses
• ¾tsp salt
• 1tsp dry active yeast
Method:
1. Place all the ingredients into your breadmaker according to your manufacturer’s instructions, and placing the butter in two opposite corners of the bread pan.
2. Set machine for the correct cycle (whole-wheat cycle) and medium crust. This should make a loaf around 700g.
3. Allow to rest when cooked before slicing.
Old English Crumpets
Crumpets made in the bread machine are far superior to shop bought ones, and they’re pretty easy to make too! Of course, you need to finish them in a frying pan or griddle, but it really is worth using the dough button to make these yummy crumpets.
Serves: 4-6 crumpets (depending on size of the rings you use)
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: Usual dough setting
Ingredients:
• 300ml full fat milk
• 300ml water
• 425g strong white bread flour
• 1½tsp salt
• 1½tsp dry active yeast
Method:
1. Place the ingredients into your breadmaker in the order given, or those recommended by your manufacturer. Make sure you make a well in the flour for the yeast.
2. Press the Dough button and leave to work its magic. After the dough has been kneaded (usually around 1 hour) turn off the machine and pour the batter into a jug or measuring jug.
3. Put your cooker hob or oven top on as high as possible and put in 4 rings (ideally around 10 centimetres).Wait for pan to heat up high.
4. Pour in batter and leave to bubble. Turn them over for evenness. When cooked the top should be ‘holey’ and the bottoms a nice golden brown.
5. Serve with lots of butter!
Pistachio-Olive Bread
This type of bread evokes warm breezes and Mediterranean beaches and is great for dipping in chilli or olive oil. Why not treat yourself?
Serves: 12
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 2 hour
Ingredients:
• 300ml water
• 2tbsp olive oil
• 2tbsp honey
• 3 cups bread flour
• 1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
• 1tbsp powdered milk
• 1¼tsp salt
• 2tsp active dry yeast
• ½ cup shelled pistachios, chopped
• ¼ cup juicy olives
Method:
1. This will make 1½lb loaf, so make sure your machine is big enough. Measure all ingredients carefully. Follow manufacturer's directions for placing ingredients in bread machine.
2. Select basic/white cycle, or that recommended by your manufacturer and press your button!
Pasta For Your Bread Machine
Yes, you are able to make it! As long as you have a pasta machine, or know how to roll out pasta and cut it, you will be able to make spaghetti or tagliatelle quite easily. If you skip cutting the pasta then it makes great lasagne sheets too.
Serves: 4 - 6
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
• 5 free range or organic eggs
• 3tbsp olive oil
• 1tbsp salt
• 375g plain flour
Method:
1. Add all the ingredients to the breadmaker, and place on dough setting.
2. When the machine has finished kneading, remove pasta, leave to rest for a few minutes and then feed through your pasta machine in the shape that you require. Alternatively roll out, cut into strips for tagliatelle.
3. Cook for 3 minutes and serve with your favourite sauce.
