CINNAMON APPLE AND WALNUT STRUDEL

Strudel is one of the all-time favourite desserts and it is considered one of the best eggless treats. The apples can be replaced with other fruits such as banana and pear.


Ingredients
Apple Filling
- 3 nosRed Apple, cored and sliced thickly
- ½ Lemon, juice
- ¾ tsp Cinnamon Powder
- ½ cup Brown Sugar
- Dash Salt
For Assembling
- 6 sheetsFilo Pastry, slight defrosted
- 150 gUnsalted Butter, melted
- 2 tbspIcing sugar or snow powder (for dusting)
Sesame & Walnut Mix
- 20 gSesame seeds, lightly toasted
- 25 gWalnuts, finely chopped
- 1 tspCinnamon Powder
- ½ tsp Ginger Powder
- 60gCastor Sugar
Method
STEP 1
To make apple filling, place apple slices in a mixing bowl and stir in lemon juice, cinnamon powder, brown sugar and salt. Mix well until all the ingredients are combined together.
STEP 2
Cook apples in a non-stick pan stirring continuously until apples are soft. Set aside to cool
STEP 3
Preheat Panasonic cubie oven to 180C and line the baking tray with a parchment paper.
STEP 4
To make sesame and walnut filling, combine sesame seeds, chopped walnuts, sugar, cinnamon powder and ginger powder in a separate bowl.
STEP 5
On a clean surface, lay one sheet of filo pastry and brush lightly with melted butter.
STEP 6
Lay another sheet on top and brush with a little more butter. Sprinkle some sesame and walnut mix all over the sheet. Layer with apple filling.
STEP 7
Continue layering with the balance filo pastry and sesame and walnut mix, brushing each sheet of pastry with melted butter. Put apples mixture onto the edge of pastry.
STEP 8
Roll up the filo pastry and transfer onto the metal tray. Brush all over with melted butter for a nice browning and sprinkle remaining sugar on top
STEP 9
Bake for 25-35 minutes or until golden brown.
STEP 10
Allow to cool slightly and garnish with sifted icing sugar or snow powder.
STEP 11
Slice and ready to be eaten. Best eaten with vanilla ice cream.
