GUA BAO WITH BBQ CHICKEN

Gua Bao makes a great appetiser or snack. It can be made with a variety of fillings like shredded chicken, fried fish or even just with an assortment of fresh and crunchy vegetables for a vegan version.

Ingredients

For the Gua Bao

  • 125 gPao flour
  • 7 gCorn flour
  • 0.5 tspYeast
  • 30 gSugar
  • 85 gMilk
  • 0.5 tbspOil
  • 1 tspOil, to rub over roll gua pao

To assemble

  • A handful Lettuce
  • Cucumber, julienne
  • Carrot, julienne

Steps

1) Put all the Gua Bao ingredients except for yeast into Panasonic bread maker.

2) Place the yeast into the yeast dispenser and select function no 9. Press start.

3) Once the dough is ready, divide the dough into 5 portions and roll them into balls.

4) Roll out the doughs into oblong shape with a rolling pin and rub a bit of oil onto half of the dough and fold it into half.

5) Place the dough onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

6) Let the dough proof for 20 to 30 minutes.

7) Next, select steam medium function and steam the bao for 12 minutes. Set aside to cool.

For the BBQ Chicken

  • 2 pcsBoneless chicken thigh
  • 2 tbspSugar
  • 1.5 tbspLee Kum Kee Soy Sauce
  • 1 tbspLee Kum Kee Oyster Sauce

Steps

1) Mix all the ingredients and set aside to marinate in the fridge overnight or at least 3 hours for a better flavour.

2) Preheat Panasonic Cubie Oven to 190c using steam convection function.

3) Place chicken thigh on the baking tray lined with parchment paper.

4) Bake for 17-20 minutes.

5) To assemble, cut chicken into thin slices.

6) Open the bao and sandwich with lettuce, chicken slices, carrot and cucumber.

7) Fold and ready to be served.

  • 90 gFlour
  • 0.5 tspBaking powder
  • 0.25 tspSalt
  • 30 gIcing sugar
  • 50 gPeanut butter
  • 25 gOil
  • 1Egg yolk, for egg wash

Steps

1) Preheat Panasonic Cubie Oven to 150c on convection function.

2) Sieve together flour, baking powder, salt and icing sugar.

3) Stir in peanut butter and oil. Mix well to form a dough.

4) Divide dough into 10 g balls and roll in between the palms to form a smooth ball.

5) Place onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

6) Lightly press the top with a fork.

7) Bake at 150c for about 17 - 20 minutes until cooked.
