Panasonic continues the journey for a green Vietnam despite Covid-19

Hanoi, November 18 2021 – Despite the challenges in the Covid-19 period, Panasonic Vietnam donated 110,000 trees to Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province in the annual tree planting program "Panasonic for a green Vietnam" in 2021 in collaboration with the Center of Natural Resources and Environment Communication – Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. This is also the first year that the program has donated trees for protection forests with the trilateral socialization: local authority - business – people, where Panasonic provides trees for plantation and local people takes charge of nurturing under the management of the local authorities. After 8 consecutive years, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its official presence in Vietnam, Panasonic has donated over 250,000 trees to 10 provinces and cities across the country.

The annual tree planting program "Panasonic for a green Vietnam" has been consistently implemented since 2013. In which, Panasonic focuses on joining hands with the government and local authorities to protect and develop plantation areas as an effective way to realize the target of reducing CO2 emissions set by Panasonic.

This year, the program supports Tuyen Quang province for the first time. The province has large area and conditions suitable for forestation. In addition, local leaders and people are very active in sustainable forest protection and development activities. Being among the top 3 localities in the country in terms of forest cover rate (after Bac Kan and Quang Binh), Tuyen Quang plays a very important role, as a part of the “green lungs” of not only the North but also the whole country of Vietnam. Implementing forestation in Tuyen Quang will be an effective contribution to reducing CO2 emission, increasing oxygen reservoir for Vietnam.

With that in mind, Panasonic donated 110,000 hybrid acacia and eucalyptus trees in the protection forest of Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province with an aim to protect one of the largest green areas in the North as well as the country in general meanwhile supporting local forest livelihoods. This is the first year that the program has donated trees for protection forests with trilateral socialization: local - business – people, where Panasonic provides trees for plantation and local people takes charge of nurturing under the management of the local authorities. Also in the program, Panasonic donated 28 garbage containers to new rural communes to support local waste treatment and convey the message of environmental protection in the local community.

After 8 years of continuous implementation, Panasonic has donated more than 250,000 trees to 10 cities and provinces throughout the country

In this year only in eight consecutive years, Panasonic employees could not participate in planting trees and cleaning up the local environment, due to the prolonged pandemic. Other activities under the program framework are also suspended including eco learning and SDGs classes for local students and battery exchanges. Instead, thousands of Panasonic employees participated a series of meaningful online activities on the topic of green living and sustainable development organized by the company. It is also the first online environmental campaign implemented internally for Panasonic Vietnam Group, in order to make each employee an ambassador living green and sustainable development. Ms. Thuy Chang, employee of Panasonic System Network Vietnam shared: "It is a meaningful program. With the guidance of experts, I am now able to classify plastic waste and know how to reuse them in everyday practice. I hope to spread an eco-friendly lifestyle to the people around me.”

With the expert advice and support of the Center for Communication of Natural Resources and Environment - Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, after 8 years of continuous implementation, Panasonic has donated more than 250,000 trees to 10 cities and provinces throughout the country. This annual corporate social responsibility activity of Panasonic in Vietnam not only brings direct benefits such as environmental protection and economic development to the local community, but also contributes to sustainable development of the country.
