Environmental Conservation Activities
Biodiversity conservation
Panasonic Industry is engaged in conservation efforts for ecosystems and the global environment to prevent atmospheric, water, soil, groundwater, and other types of pollution.
Koriyama Site, Electronic Materials Business Division (Fukushima Prefecture)
Lake Inawashiro in Fukushima Prefecture, where the Koriyama Site of the Electronic Materials Business Division is located, was once said to have the highest quality water in Japan. But in recent years this quality has worsened due to abnormal overgrowth of aquatic plants and washed-up aquatic vegetation.
For more than a decade Koriyama Site, together with residents and nearby universities, has engaged in efforts to remove the washed-up aquatic vegetation to improve the water quality and conserve the environment of Lake Inawashiro. Currently, through the intercession of the labor union, around 50 to 100 Panasonic Group employees and family members take part each year in such activities, which are led by the Citizens' Council for Conserving the Beauty of Lake Inawashiro. The collected aquatic vegetation is used in farms around the lake as fertilizer.
These efforts aim to conserve and restore the ecosystems of the lake.
Kumamoto Site, Device Solutions Business Division and Electromechanical Control Business Division (Kumamoto Prefecture)
Traditional rural-agricultural ecosystems and landscapes support biodiversity through human intervention. Paddy fields in particular play an important role in conserving and replenishing water sources such as groundwater.
Kumamoto Prefecture, blessed with abundant water resources, is undertaking a variety of efforts to conserve its groundwater, which serves as the foundation of the local people's livelihoods and industry.
Employees and family members of the Kumamoto Site serve as volunteers in rice planting organized by the Kumamoto Environmental Preservation Association. This helps conserve groundwater and other rich water resources that are essential to business activities.
These efforts help to enhance awareness of the need to protect biodiversity, maintain natural resources, and conserve the environment.
Community contribution activities (Panasonic Eco Relay for Sustainable Earth)
Employees of the Panasonic Group plan and implement various environmental activities rooted in local communities, involving local residents, children, and employees' families. With the intention of passing these efforts on to subsequent generations, we named this initiative the Panasonic Eco Relay for Sustainable Earth, aiming to contribute to a sustainable global environment and society as responsible global citizens.
We are involved in these activities as members of the Panasonic Group. Each employee worldwide proactively implements environmental activities as a global citizen to contribute to local environments in their business site. Here we introduce some of those activities.
