FAQ
General
What does VIXELL mean?
It is a coined word with the image of benefit (Vacuum insulation provides excellent benefits.) provided by vacuum insulation technology. (Applying for trademark registration)
Specifications and product usages
Are there only “Type-S” and “Type-L”, two kinds of in the cooling box product?
There are only two types at the moment. While we would like to expand the lineup based on feedback from business partners in the future.
Is a thermal storage unit essential?
Yes, it is. The vacuum insulation cooling box VIXELL consists of a vacuum insulation casing and a thermal storage unit for storing pharmaceuticals. It is possible to accommodate various temperature zones by changing the thermal storage unit in the vacuum insulation housing.
Is the thermal storage unit exclusive for VIXELL?
Is the thermal storage unit exclusive for VIXELL?
Can other companies use the thermal storage unit?
Please use the thermal storage unit exclusively for VIXELL. In order to maximize the cooling capacity of the VIXELL, the layout of the medicine chest and the thermal storage agent is taken into consideration, so that the cooling performance cannot be guaranteed for any use other than the thermal storage unit specified by our company.
Are sensors such as temperature and GPS included?
No, they are not included.
What kind of tests do you do for airmail transportation?
It passes the 6-FedEx-A drop test* specified by ISTA (International Safety Transport Association), while please mark the box as fragile and handle with care.
[*Drop 1-corner, 3-side, and 6-side from a height of approx. 760 mm above the floor.]
Please be mindful that the Type-L dry ice models are evaluated using internal standards, not ISTA.
This product has passed our internal standards and the evaluation specified by ISTA, assuming that it can be used in aircraft, and is considered to be sufficiently durable for normal delivery.
What are the expected storage purposes?
For drugs and vaccines.
Will the box swell or burst with dry ice?
We have a mechanism to release the air pressure increased by dry ice. However, please refrain from using VIXELL in an environment where the outside temperature exceeds 40℃, or together with the heat source with dry ice so that the dry ice may sublimate rapidly.
What is the recommended heat retention temperature?
We recommend temperature range from 15℃ to 25℃ for high temperature use. For low temperature use, it is recommended to use the dry ice band (-70℃ or below).
Are you also considering other temperature zones?
We are not taking those into our consideration at the moment. We may evaluate upon requests.
Is on-site inspection available overseas?
The service is limited domestically in Japan at the moment.
Can liquid nitrogen with a lower temperature be used to replace dry ice?
Not available.
The on-site inspection equipment might help to confirm the insulation performance before transportation, does the insulation performance decrease for some reasons during transportation?
The quality of insulation during transportation cannot be verified. Onsite inspection equipment is used only to inspect insulation performance before using VIXELL.
Technical features
What is the difference between the insulation used in VIXELL and the insulation used in refrigerators?
The urethane used in VIXELL is a special urethane designed for vacuum insulation.
How did you realize the integral molding of vacuum insulation?
This was achieved through the fusion of technologies cultivated in the plastic molding and urethane foaming of refrigerators and technologies for handling invisible vacuum in vacuum insulation panels. (Unique technique of our company)
VIXELL has a built-in wireless vacuum sensor- how do you supply the power to drive the sensor?
We use “NFC” (Near Field Communication). No power supply is required in the VIXELL unit for its wireless power supply system.
Can VIXELL maintain its performance under high temperature? (e.g. under direct sunlight)
The cooling time is measured in an environment with an ambient temperature of 30 ° C. It may be shorter under higher temperature. In particular, please do not leave it in direct sunlight or in an automobile in summer for a long period of time for the high temperature.
How long can VIXELL maintain thermal insulation?
It depends on the usage environment, but we assumed that life expectancy could reach a several years.
COVID-19
Can it be used to transport COVID-19 vaccines?
Although VIXELL is not specifically designed for delivery of the COVID-19 vaccines, it has been confirmed that it can retain the temperature zone required for storage of them. Before using the product, please check with the vaccine manufacturer, medical personnel, etc., about the shipping method.
The storage temperature of the major COVID-19 vaccines is generally said to be
Pfizer: Storage Temperature -75℃ ± 15℃
AstraZeneca: Storage Temperature 2℃ - 8℃
Moderna: Storage Temperature -20℃±5℃
